About Our House

After four years of design and construction, Chris and I now live in the house that we designed together and Chris built as owner builder, with much of the work done by him and the Palomino brothers, who worked under his direction. We called the house “Villa Boswell,” which comes from the title Chris gave to the house plans, after seeing that many home designers provide a title to their house plan on the cover sheet. This blog is an opportunity for me to document all the stuff we’ve done together and individually: gardening, pond building, and home building. This page shows some of the more interesting photos of the house and the project.

You wouldn’t believe how these started out. Talk about making a silk purse from a sow’s ear.

The “parlor” leads off the living room and has double closing doors. Here, Chris tunes the piano.

 Bathroom 1

This is the first bathroom off the hallway. It’s small, but very tiled. I got in this picture of the vanity as best I could. Need a wide angle lens for this, I suppose. Of note here is that my mother-in-law tiled this bathroom. And Chris custom fit this vanity into this nook, which was quite a feat.

Another guest room, but we have plans to use this for crafts. My mother’s hand-stitched quilt hangs on the wall.

 Study

Up the stairs, you have the master bedroom and study. First the study. It could also be a child’s room.

 Master Bathroom

The next set of photos show the master bath, with her vanity and the walk-in steam shower. Chris made all three mirrors for the her-vanity to match the existing cabinets. He also made the cabinet for his vanity as well (which is naturally and correctly much smaller than mine).

 Master Bedroom

The final set of photos shows the master bedroom, with the “dressing area” as a kind of hallway. Off the dressing area is a walk in closet (no photos for that). As you will see, the bedroom really belongs to Max.
